The WBL
& the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame
| THANK YOU! to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame for sending a representative, Nan Elrod, and free goodies to the 25th Anniversary WBL Reunion, and for letting us bring down the house with Cardie Hicks' fantastic rendition of the WBHOF theme song "The Dream." |
In April 2002, I was one of the sponsors of the 2002 WBHOF Induction Ceremony -- whose class included ex-WBL player Cindy Brogdon (New Orleans Pride) -- and I visited the Hall for the first time. One result was some behind-the-scenes photos of the festivities, with only slightly defamatory captions. Pics include ex-WBLers Lynnette Sjoquist of the Minnesota Fillies and Barb Hostert of the Milwaukee Does, and basketball legends Marianne Stanley, Tara Vanderveer, and Pat Summit.
| WBL in the Class of 2005: None.
There are no former WBL players among the 2005 inductees. WBL in the Class of 2004: None. There are no former WBL players among the 2004 inductees. WBL representatives in prior classes (with year of induction): Carol Blazejowski (1999); Cindy Brogdon (2002); Nancy Dunkle (2000); Lusia Harris Stewart (1999); Tara Heiss (2003); Nancy Lieberman (1999); Ann Meyers (1999); Patricia "Trish" Roberts (2000); Rosie Walker (2001); Holly Warlick (2001); Dean Weese (2000). |
The Hall is very nicely done, with lots of interesting stuff about the college game, AAU, the All-American Redheads, and we hope its collection of WBL material will continue to grow. Space and resources are limited, however.
If you have a little donation money burning a hole in your pocket and want to do something to further the preservation of women's sports history, consider adding the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame to your list.
